Another FTE Success Story
Posted last month about my truck running bad until it got completely warm, then it ran fine.
I didn't have enough info to let y'all help me much, but a couple of you ventured a guess that it was stiction, which I have no experience with - until now.
But a simple search of the site provided a wealth of info in past threads, and the more I read, the more I felt confident that it was just stiction and not something worse. The consensus I gathered from everyone was to switch the oil to 5/40 synthetic and add some ArchOil. Did that today.
I'm not sure how much of the improvement can be attributed to ArchOil since the performance difference was immediate, as if just changing oil types would have solved my problems. I let it idle for about thirty minutes, but as I said, I could tell it was running better as soon as it started. I've now got about 30 miles on it and it's running great.
The test will come in the morning with a dead cold start. The last few days, it has been difficult to start that first time. Even today, after the oil change, it was difficult to start (a couple of false starts before it caught), although it evened out immediately. I feeling pretty good that it will start easy in the morning and idle smooth.
I almost took this truck to the dealer for a cylinder contrib test, and if I had, the test would have undoubtedly shown that when it was first started that some cylinders weren't contributing. They would have recommended that I replace those injectors, and if I had, the truck would surely have started running great. But, it woulda cost me at least $1500.
Instead, with this forum's help, and about $160 worth of ArchOil and T6, I good to go hopefully!

This is on the Ambulance unit? Remind us of how many miles on that one?
I just went to a blend of synth and dino and noticed an immediate difference in cold start (especially) and that includes when the weather is warm Mine has nowhere near the miles on it that the rest of the folks do here.
I also notice a difference when I'm running Diesel Kleen, and based on others noting how clean their EGRs and Intakes stay or become when running an additive like DK, I'll be running it in every tank. It also smooths out the starts IMO...

IHateCommieCars, Did you know that T6 is not a blend but 100% synthetic?
I would think that the dealer would of hit you for more than just $1500
knowing how a lot of them work. In other words they squeeze you for all your
worth and then some.
