Junior's tranny didn't really start doing this till he pulled home a f150 on the trailer memorial day. Does anyone have any diagnostic "exercises" to try? Tomorrow I am going to hook up and play alittle with the Auto Enginuity I got for xmas and see if anything comes up. We don't know if OD light is on or flashing cuz wires on end of shifter are broke but have been previous. Where did all the tranny guys go(Coon,Racerx,Madvan). Need help.......

got codes originally it had a coast clutch code, ten I cleared it drove and a P1728 trans slip code came on. It will shift on it's own but not till about 18mph. My other truck was doing this same thing and after I sold it about 2months later the tranny had to be rebuilt. The guy said all the clutches were toast, would like not to have that happen to this on. when is the coast clutch supposed to be active? with the AE hooked up and watching the shift engagement and coast clutch(cc) seems the cc was engaged in both 1st and 2nd. When shifted manually it did better. Hope this enough info to help.

The coast clutch will be on when the OD OFF light is lit, or when the shifter is in 1 or 2. The P1728 code means something is slipping when the trans is in 4th gear with the torque converter locked. The PCM doesn't get enough information to be able to tell what's slipping.

Well I guess we will change the fluid and filter and go from there. The fliud is bad.I was told it was rebuilt but this truck has had a hard life it appears. I wouldn't mind rebiulding it myself except for the coin. I have way more invested in this truck than I like. I guess the "good" price I thought i got had it's costs......

I had a pin broken off from corrosion on the harness connetor on the solenoid body. Replaced it and the harness plug. You can disconnect the harness plug and inspect the terminals- This is a long shot, but not unheard of.
