I have an 03 F250 V10 4x4 w/3.73 rears. When I leave a stop sign For just a split second it feels like a tranny slip or shuttering. The truck only has 72000 miles and is perfect otherwise. It does have a lmited slip differential also. My Excursion has the same drivetrain w/o the limited slip..and doesn't do it(as I've noticed anyway). All shifts and tranny operation seem fine. Any of you experience this?
Shudder on starting, especially when loaded or towing, is usually a sign you do need to shim your carrier bearing (if you have one, that is). Otherwise, maybe a work out U-joint?
I have something similar in my 7.3L Ex. It's a 2001, and I notice it empty, when taking off the line, but usually not when it's straight, only when I'm leaving the line and turning right or left. Also, if I'm light on the throttle I might not notice, but with even a little enthusiasm, I feel a shudder, initially and then after 100' or so, it's gone. I was thinking rear diff. Sounds like that's in line with the responses. Assuming they mean the rear diff carrier bearing?
Do you have a lift? If you do there can be friction in the ujoints and that causes some shuddering on take off. That is normal. But idk if thats what is causing yours or not.
No lift, other than x-code springs and 4 inch blocks in rear but ui did it before. I will have to look closer at the u-joints. Truck is a CC shortbed so I don't think it has a carrier bearing.
I have a shudder and clacking, and maybe a little slipping, but I believe mine is throw out bearing, possibly clutch. Only have 211,000 miles on it !! 130,000 mi. I put on it.
Shouldn't need one yet
Depending on how far gone the clutches in your limited slip differential are, you may be able to fix your problem by simply changing the gear oil in your rear differential. For the value, I recommend Valvoline Full Synthetic 75W140 which was available from AutoZone for around $12 a quart (depending on your differential, you'll probably need 3). Also regardless of what the bottle says or what brand you buy, add 8 oz of friction modifier available at most advance auto parts for around $8.00. I have tried it without doing this and the shutter returned almost immediately.
I wish I could say this is a universal fix for this, but in some cases, the clutches are just too far gone and will need to be replaced... Hope in your cases it solves the problem.
