Yes another CAI question

I'm thinking of purchasing a volant for 65.00. I have read i will need to upgrade my edge evo in order not to run too lean. I have also read about the Gotts mod and was wondering. If i did the Gotts mod and a amsoil filter would i also have the lean problem since i would be getting more air flow? My truck is a 2006 5.4l flex fuel. Any help would be great.

You won't. The factory lean issue was solved in early 06.

But custom tunes would still improve your truck's performance.

i understand now thanks. if you mod your intake like that why would you not mod it from the box out. its the big air pockets on it that kill the flow pattern but it is better than stock and cheap

The Helmholz resonators (I kid you not - that's what they're called) prevent the possibility of standing waves in the air flow and more importantly - drone. Plus it doesn't screw up the MAF flow area.

my intake makes a drone from 3000 to 3500 rpm under 3/4 throttle and it matches my exhaust note and sound great. a ? about the maf flow, my intake (specter 4in) came with an adapter for the maf sensor to reduce the size at the sensor but you dont have to use it. i was thinking about taking it out when i clean the filter, now that i have an edge evolution and see if it likes it more.

1Bad - I have read very poor reviews of the Specter (they are jokingly called sphincter). Not saying they're good or bad, but you may want to do some searching on owner's opinions before it's too late.

HYDAFL has the right idea.

I have an 04 with the 4.6, will a cai or air box mod possibly create the lean condition? or did I read this thread wrong?

Thanks

The 4.6L are fine. It's the 5.4L 3V engines that are at risk.

i got mine at pep boys for $170 and love it, the only downer is the bushing that holds the end of the tube is worn out after around 20k miles but it still works and sounds great. when you stand on it the intake sounds like it could suck small animals in, but im shur its lower quality than others but i could buy two of them for the cost of a K&N or most others. i would not think twice about buying another! one thing is when it gets dirty i may get a K&N filter for the end but we will see.

thought i would put this out there... i put a S&B intake on my truck and hated it... it would make a vibration note at certain RPM's (cant remember which ones since it was only one for a few hours before i took it off) i took it off and installed it 3 diff times to make sure it wasnt rubbing on anything and it wasnt....

first time i installed it it was without the edge and it sounded like it was pre detonating.... it got better after i drove it a lil bit but still made the engine vibrate....

installing the edge only made it way worse.... so i took it off and all my problems went away... now im running just the edge on level 2 and a drop in K&N into the stock intake system and it runs pefect.....

also it would always smell like coolant in the exhaust... and my coolant temps were at least 5-8 degrees hotter with the intake on...

just thought i would share my experience-Raul with the S&B intake on my F150
