Thumbs up 4.6L Gotts Mod

I just completed the Gotts Mod on my 2001 4.6L Supercrew.

I feel a noticeable difference in top end power, it pulls quite nicely.

The mod took all of about an hour and a half from getting the materials at Home Depot, to starting up the truck and test driving it.

I would gladly recommend this cheap modification to anyone looking for more power out of their 4.6L 2V V8.

Let me know if you have any questions! And I'll try to answer them

Search for "Gotts Mod" in the search bar and the original thread should pop up. It's a fairly simple rebuild on your intake opening from the fender well. I'm not sure of where the original thread is, but someone should know.

basically the intake tube goes thru the fender well and sucks cool air into the intake manifold. The plastic intake tube has about a 2.5 inch hole in it and it pokes thru a 3.5 inch hole in the fender well. You eliminate the plastic tube and replace it with a 3 inch PVC pipe coupling that butts up against the 3.5 inch opening in the fender--- same cool suction ,but about twice tha air intake. You get a slight increase in "rumble" or engine nosie which does sound good, not objectionable. Lets the motor breath a little better which in theory should help... but remember, your running down the road at 1600 RPM and probably had about enough air already for that RPM.. STill it is cheap and "might" help. I did it several years ago to reduce any intake restriction that "might" exist.

click on my name next to the tractor photo... then click on "galary", then clich on the blue title "intake tube" to see a bigger photo of the stock inlet tube.

All the new trucks and cars come with a CAI system. What this mod does is opens up the restriction on the fender side of the air filter.
