Hello FTE:

I have a '97 Expedition and last week purchased a '02 SD F250. They both have their own keyless entry remotes. I would like to use one remote for both vehicles. My 250's owners manual explains how to reprogram the remotes but there is no mention of reprogram the truck itself.

Is it possible to use one remote for both?

I only know of reprogramming the remotes - not sure about the "2 in one" idea though...

You could just keep the keys & remotes on seperate chains - it will cut down on how much gear you have to carry around with you (it will also cut down on the tap...tap...tap...tap.... of the keys/chain tapping the steering column.

What?? Sure you can program 2 trucks to 1 remote. The remote doesn't care what device receives the signal, as long as the device knows that signal is intended for it. I have done it, the only key is they both have to use the same remote. In 1999, Ford made a change to the remote system, resulting in a different remote. In your case, you probably have 2 different remotes, which won't interchange. Your 1997 Expedition uses a PATS I systems, while your 02 SD uses the PATS II system. That means different key blanks, different remotes, different methods of programming your key. If your Expedition happend to be 2 years newer, you would be good to go. If I am not mistaken, your Expedition remote has the words lock and unlock on the buttons, while the SD remote has picutres of a lock.

 

Tell us more. I have a '99 Expy and an '01 Taurus and would love to program them to one remote.

 

I am not sure if your Taurus and Expy remotes are compatible, but it's worth a try. Just try reprogramming your Expedition to your Taurus remote and see if it works. Obviously, the trunk button will have no effect.

 

Thanks for your reply Aaron! What a bummer! I was so close, but yet so far! Oh well, I've already put my wifes Expy remote in the drawer and will just use a key. I know, I know... using the key is so archaic but it'll just have to do!
