I have a 99 Expo and when I purchased it the dealership did not have the keyless entry remote to it, HOWEVER, they gave me one from another expedition. Will this remote work on my truck, mine is a 99 the other was a 2000. If so, where could i get the re-programing instructions, or should I just buy one off of ebay with the programming instructions.
To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:
Turn the ignition switch (11572) from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered the program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
Press any button on the keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.
If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after Step 2, to exit the program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.
Those instructions work. i purchased a 99' expy a month ago and it came with just 1 remote. i went onto ebay and purchased a 2nd remote for around $10.
Just a note that should you get a 2nd remote down the road you must also re-program your 1st remote at the same time. I made the error of programing the one i got from ebay, but not the origional one so when my wife tried to use her remote it didn't work.
Not a biggy, i just re-programed both of them a second time and everything was fine it's just something to remember should you get a 2nd remote.
I have a Ford F-350 deisel (1999) which I bought used, and it didn't come with any remotes. I purchased (2) remotes on EBAY for my year and model truck and went to program them but it won't go into program mode as explained above and in the owners manual. Any ideas on how to get them programmed, or what to look for would be appreciated. Thanks,
The truck has to be equipped with the hardware for the keyless entry system. In oversimplified terms, think of the remotes as transmitters and the hardware as the receiver. Your truck probably doesn't have the receiver. Keyless entry was NOT standard equipment on the F-350. The presence of power door locks is not a guarantee of a keyless entry system.
Is there a way to check to see if there is a receiver in my truck ? Where is it located and what does it look like ? My truck had a Viper 500 alarm system installed in it when I bought it but did not work properly so I removed it, maybe whoever installed it had to disconnect the original lock receiver unit and all I have to do is hook it back up.
1). Get in the vehicle, shut the door. All doors should be closed, but unlocked.
2). Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN. If the keyless entry system has successfully entered the program mode, it will lock and unlock the doors.
PaulC helped me on getting my keyless entry system lined out and it's sweeet! If that didn't work then u don't have the keyless system like someone said before or it's unplugged like u may think...... You may be able to call your local dealer and give them your VIN and they may be able to tell you.
Keyless entry on the F350 that year was part of the GEM module. You likely didnt get that feature, which is probably why it had the alarm system installed. If I recall right there was a pretty low percentage of the Super Duty that had it.
I don't think you can by the VIN, but if you execute the test described above by New Expedition Owner, you can determine if the truck is enabled/equipped for this feature.
I have contacted Ford Customer Service and they did a research on my VIN number and said it was ordered with keyless remote transmitters, so I think maybe they proably unhooked a couple of wires somewhere to disable it when they put the viper 500 alarm system on. Does anyone know where I should look for these wires ? Proably under the dash or near the fusebox somewhere ? Any tech assistance would be appreciated. Thanks,
Mike
If you haven't already, do a little research on the installation of the Viper 500 and see if talks about un-hooking any wires on the Fords......The 500 has the remote keyless too so I'm pretty sure something is disabled. You may email drdetailshop.com. They do alot of Viper alarms and may be able to help you.
Just a little FYI. I have looked on the Ford computers at the build sheets for a number of cars that Ford showed had keyless entry but in fact did not. Also if the GEM was ever replaced and they didnt put a Keyless Entry enabled GEM in to replace the original it wont work either.
By the way on the 1999 you only cycle the key 5 times, not 8 ending with the RUN position.
Programming
NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters (15K601) must be programmed at the same time.
NOTE: To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the generic electronic module (GEM), perform the following steps.
Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN five times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN. If the GEM has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and unlock all the doors.
Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.
If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait for several seconds and press the button again.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after step 1, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the GEM will lock and unlock all the doors one last time.
