2007 F-150 Front Rotors

Hi,
My wife has an 07 F-150 2wd w/ 60,000 miles an the front rotors are warped. I'm planning on taking them off an gettin them turned an was wonderin if there is any trick to getting them off. Does the whole bearing have to be removed or will it come off if you take the brake caliper an bracket off?
Thanks,
Kjf-250

I don't know for 100% sure, but I think you just need to move break caliper out of the way and the rotor should just come off. At least that's the way my wife's Subaru works and was told by a mechanic friend of mine that all the late 2wd vehicles are like that.

BTW, good luck on getting them turned. I'll bet you are told that they can't be.

If there's enough material left on your rotor, they can certainly be turned.

Most shops today, replace rotors vs turning, the charged labor vs actual labor is in their favor by replacing. Most shops no longer have a drum/rotor turning machine.

Find a local partstore that has an inhouse machine shop. They can turn your rotors for you. Just price it out first, as you may find you're not saving enough by going the turned rotor route. (quick look at rockauto.com, shows it's much cheaper to get them turned)

Two important things for you to be aware of. The spindle nut must be replaced, as it's a one time use item. And it needs to be torqued to 295 ft-lbs.

Looks like you can get the spindle nut thru sources other then the dealer. Rockauto has it listed as RAYBESTOS Part # 28492 {Professional Grade} Front; Two Wheel Drive (4x2) for $13.48

GwarForAll1021,

It is not the same, 4x4's have floating discs and are much cheaper. To my recollection 4x2s have an all in one (hub&disc) unit. When I changed my brakes out they almost fell off when I took the caliper bracket off...

No, I changed the rotors on my 04 4x4 and you don't have to take off the spindle nut. At least, I know I never replaced the nut.

But you probably won't be able to turn them. OEMs are making the original rotors to save cost and weight. So, they're pretty much disposable after one use. Unless you still have material on the pads, you might be lucky if you can find a shop to turn them. Good luck. I'm getting ready to do my brakes again at 112k.

NOPE!, That won't help him, He has a 2wd, that article shows a 4wd, and on a 1997-2003 truck.

YES, you can have them turned. But to make it a DIY project, you will need the wheel nuts. Wheel nuts off, slide the whole hub assembly off the spindle. repeat for other side. Take it to local machine shop service and have them turned. put 'm back on and reassemble brakes OR, take the truck to a mieneke or Midas, and see if they have the ON-THE-CAR rotor turning machine. They should. They will just hook this on to the wheel studs and bolt it to the caliper bracket and cut the rotor right on the truck. No new wheel nuts.

Good luck..
