I hope this helps:

Part #16929 in the top image goes through parts #16927 & 16925 and screws into part #8162 on the bottom image.

Thanks Bob

Not sure Bob; but it looks like I need part 16929 with spring etc; all I have on the grill portion is a threaded hole, 1/2" ? I'll have to scout around for replacement part.
So the mushroomed bolt would stick up an inch ore more above the grill assembly ?

Tom,
That mushroom bolt sticks up about 2". The bolt goes up through a hole in the latch plate on the hood which latches onto the mushroom part of it. the spring contacts the bottom of that latch plate and keeps tension on the hood.

I posted a reply earlier but it didn't show for some reason.

Anyways, Bobby, is that some kind of Frosty cooled air cleaner you have on your truck? Are you holding out on a new fuel saving device?

Bob,

I was reading some old articles on water injection and figured I'd tweak the process a little bit. Its too early to make any conclusive decisions about the process but initial testing reveals a marked increase in fuel mileage. However there are some trade-offs to be considered which may prove detrimental;
1. With the current views of the community (and especially the law enforcement community) regarding open containers and driving the process may be deemed unlawful and result in very high fines and other legal costs
2. Engine heat seems to have a detrimental effect on the "frosty" part of the frosty beverage equation
3. engine vibration also has a detrimental effect on the carbon dioxide content of the frosty beverage containers thereby causing the contect to be expelled from the containers with much force, temporarily overwhelming the recommended frosty beverage flow rates.
4. A variety of side effects that may effect the driver of the truck which is not limited to and may include;
A) loud and boisterous singing (off key)
B) the inability to speak certain phrases...i.e."no, no, I couldn't possibly have another" or "No really, no one wants to hear me sing", or "no thanks, I'm not really into dancing" or "good evening officer, what a beautiful night"
C) Deep throbbing headaches occuring approx 6 to 8 hours following long exposures
D) an aversion to bright lights (i.e. the sun) occuring concurrently with deep throbbing headaches (see above)
E) weight gain (early reports seem to indicate that weight gain may be attributed to late night waffle house binges with orders that included a short stack, steak and eggs, a chicken fried steak with all the trimmings, biscuits and gravy, and a Chubby Chuck burger to go......{note - no, the waitress is not impressed with your singing or your Elvis impersonation})

I know it looks like these are insurmountable odds but I'll keep trying. I've been on the ragged edge of a breakthrough for years now and on occasion have glimpsed the solution, but for some stange reason the answers which were so clear during those late night research sessions seem to fade away and become elusive in the harsh light of day (once all the side effects have worn off)

Man, I'd hate to see the storage facilities necessary to stock the materials used in your research. How does your wife's car think about sharing the garage with your truck? Does it complain about the emissions?

Boy, talk about going off topic!

hood latch

Found a mushroom bolt and latch spring yesterday for my '50 ; also managed to get a spring,and bolt for the vent handle. These parts are getting harder and harder to find ! I picked up my lower front fenders yesterday from the chemical rust removal. They came out great ; have a copper finish on them. They must of had some chemical treatment done on them originally, although I don't know why ? Will start body work on them soon, which only leaves the hood, to finish. May actually have it assembled over the summer !

Don't mean to hijack, but, Bob, on your diagram there are some rubber bumpers on the bottom of the hood that I'm unsure about. I bought a bumper kit from Sac Vintage Ford and it has six bottom edge bumpers, which vary in thickness, and one larger bumper with a screw to fasten it. Do you know which size bottom edge bumper goes where, and where does the screw in bumper go at all?

Cowl bolt

Thanks Bob,
I've been looking through all my extra parts and can't find a thing that looks like that. Do you have any idea where I can find one?

I don't know of any place to get this specific part(s) but I think you could assemble the parts from different sources.

The hardest part might be the end nut piece but McMaster-Carr has a piece that I think might work:

They call it a "Thumb nut"--McMaster-Carr
