key for 02 f350

I just purchased a totalled truck from the insurance company and it didn't come with any keys. Ford is cutting me a key from the VIN number but they said it won't work unless it is programmed. Do f-350's have PAT keys? I am thinking he made a mistake and thinks it is a 150. If you do need to program the key does anyone know how?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the superduty's don't have the PATS system. My F-350 doesn't.

I don't know what PATS is and I have a Lariat '03 (7.3 like my sig says) and it's just a key. None of that fancy schmancy encoding, chip in the key garbage. I think the dealership is confused. They may charge you some $$$ to cut you the key since you have to get it from them by VIN #, but it shouldn't be anything special. Just a double-sided cut with a square head.

The only programming you need to do is if you get a new key fob (alarm pad keyring thingy). You save some dough and program that yourself like this:

PROGRAM KEYLESS ENTRY/REMOTE
(Up to 4 units max)
(All locks must be up or down at start)
1. Insert a key in the ignition and turn from OFF to ON eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the ON position.
2. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the programming mode has been entered.
3. Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated).
4. Repeat step 3 to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
5. When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn the ignition to OFF or wait 20 seconds. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.

Valet Mode: Insert a key in the ignition and turn from OFF to ON three times in rapid succession (disables anti- theft). To enable anti-theft, Insert a key in the ignition and turn from OFF to ON three times in rapid succession.

You should be in business after that.

Thanks guys, I didn't think so just thought I would check before I paid for the key. They cut it from the VIN so I hope they haven't changed it.

When I baught my used truck, I asked about the second key and the dealer told me there wasn't one, but could make me one for $45. Forget it. I went to WallyWorld and had two made up for a couple bucks.
Stealer ship is the right word.

I did that with my wife's 01, but when we went outside to make sure the key worked in the door it bent when we started to turn it.

I bought one of those keypads from Ed (FTE parts guy), followed the directions to program it, and stuck it on the door so we don't have to worry about getting locked out. Then I got a regular key cut at the Ford dealer. That one didn't bend.
