ok guys i got a 2000 f350 powerstroke with auto hubs (junk), ok with the hubs in the auto position i have vacum lines disconnected i can turn the passenger side axle at the u-joint by hand, but when i come over to the drive side axle i cant turn it at all is that normal?? i'm not getting any noise at all when both hubs are in auto now on the other hand when i turn the hubs to the lock position and transfer case in neutral i am getting a very loud humming and alot of vibration once i hit 40mph?? and its defintly seems louder than normal and seems to be holding my truck back a bit?? and finally when i shift my transfer case to 4hi i get a thumping noise up front the 4wheel is working fine i just cant seem to figure out the noise?? any help would be appreciated...
1. Can you turn the front driveline by hand with the hubs in auto and the transfer case in 2x?
2. How are you putting an electric shift t-case in neutral while rolling? I don't know how to even get the dang thing in neutral...
3. With the hubs locked you will notice more rolling resistance, nature of the beast and completely normal.
4. Thump is normal, don't sweat it.
Edit- Welcome to FTE and the 99-03 forum! Lots of helpful folks in here, we'll help you sort this out.
I would pull both auto hubs off to have a look. Very easy to do, just go to guzzles web site, very informative. I also would not drive much more without looking into this otherwise it could get $$$$. It could be that hub is going bad or it needs some service. Roy

ok tore the hubs out found one was hanging up, but then tore down the whole hub assembly down and couldnt find anything at all i guess i'm down to seeing if the new warns help tomorrow or i'm taking the front shaft off and going to check all the universals anybody else have any ideas, i never thought tho i dont get a bit of chatter untill i lock the hubs i get a vibrations and when i shift the TC to 4x4 its thumping, but like i said in 2wd not a bit of noise
Sounds like you have a sticky hub on that one side... If you put in Warn manuals your problem may be gone completely ! And if you do put in manuals I would disconnect the vaccum lines all together !
Hi welcom to FTE. If you use new manual hubs be sure to plug the vacume lines and the nipple on the knuckle.
The vibes could have been that one axle was locked and the other wasent(like you said) and the diff gears were wizzing away. And they also were just slowley turning the free unlocked drive shaft (the clunk when engaging 4) while moving.
I just did my front end a few weeks ago and Love the Warns. they bolt right up and I just tested them today for the first time. They look as great as they work.
While your hubs are off you can grab a hold to stub axle with your hand and give it shake. Make sure the inner bearings are not loose (means there dry and probably eating a groove in you axle) ask me how i know.
Good luck
