Get a F450 chassis cab. The wheel base is 4" longer than a long bed F250/F350. When you put a long bed on it with the wheel wells aligned with the axle, there's a 4" gap between the front of the bed and the cab.

i realy like my camper and i realy like the idea of stacks so its kinda a delemima for me, i could just go to a pull behind or 5th wheel camper but then id have to tow doubles when i want to take my boat with me. i wonder if i could mount the camper with the stacks if the stacks terminated like an inch above the cab. and have 45*'s on it that i could loosen a clamp and rotate it out some when the camper is on and then let the camper stick out the 4inches more (its a 10 ft camper not counting the over the roof bed so it already sticks out the back like 2 ft) how hot do the stacks get on the outside?

I've been thinking of doing something similar, though my rig sounds like it might be a better choice for outside-the-bed stacks.
I've got a '95 Powerstroke with dually rears and a utility bed. Because of the utility bed, it sticks out about 7" or so on either side of the cab. I thought a set of stacks w/heat shields would work well there, and I could have them secured to the utility bed.
Here's a pic of the truck:
Any thoughts?

Yeah, I've seen outside the bed on both single and dual RW trucks. Doesn't look right on singles. My plan is for them on the outside, but mine's a dually. TMIB, yours is a perfect candidate. The side oiler idea can be cool, but really tough to keep clean and keeping it from getting beat up with stone pits could be tough.

The best outside the bed stacks I saw were on a dually, but there was a twist. The stacks cam out just under the bed (through a hole in the box side and then turned up. The box side had a round recess put in for the pipe to sit in so if you were looking straight down the side of the truck you would only see about half the stack sticking out. I can't recall were I saw this it might have been Diesel Power. This is a pretty out there project (time/money) but it sure looked cool
