rear window chrome strip trick
I have my new sliding rear window installed with brand new weatherstrip that has the flexible chrome strip that needs to be installed. Is there a trick to installing that chrome? Do I need a special tool to do it? Or is that trim just a huge pain? Any experiance is appreciated!

That "Chrome" plastic strip isn't supposed to be used with the sliding rear windows.
Normally the trim just presses in.
If the weatherstrip or the plastic trim piece is old, then it could become a problem. Both are supposed to be flexible.
You can use a screwdriver as an aid, but be careful.

I thought I read a post on here once (from somebody banned) that it was much easier to install the chrome strip in the weatherstrip first, then pop the unit in as a whole from the outside of cab towards inside, using the rope trick. That is the method I was going to try (very soon, as a matter of fact). But I'll keep my eye on this thread for other possibilities... both my weatherstrip and chrome are new, so should be about as flexible as it gets.

They do make a special tool to install the chrome lockstrip. I used to have a link for it but can't find it. What I used on the windshield and Bronco side windows is a small pointed pick and a small straight head screwdriver. I set the bottom lip of the chrome strip in the gasket and the top side I use my pick to lift the rubber up a bit and then pushed it in flat with the tip of the screwdriver. The first windshield I did took forever, after 2 side windows in the Bronco and the second windshield it went very easy.

Since the sliding rear window kit fits all 1973/96 F100/350's, and was sold over the parts counter, having the moulding on a pre 1982 F100/350 wouldn't be implausible.
There were two kits originally, but Ford replaced the kit used 1973/81 with the 1982 kit which fits 'em all.

E2TZ10422B30A .. Sliding Rear Window Kit
MSRP: $126.60 / ftepartsguy.com price: $94.95

The website sez 1987 and later, but that's in-correct...it's the way the website was set up...I guess Ford chose to ignore anything made before 1987!

The 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog shows the back glass chrome plastic moulding was used 1982 and later on the factory sliding rear window kit. I was thinking 1973-81 Slider with the wrong weatherstrip for it.
Just goes to show, too many interchangeable parts can go on to keep it all straight.

Is there any of the 1973/81 kits still avaliable elsewhere?
And does the 1982-1996 kit come with the "chrome" plastic strip and weatherstrip, or is that seperate?

Definately not implausable. Still not year correct though.

Hmm, this makes me want to ask...

Basically the kit came with everything it took to install it.
But I wonder today, considering its current retail price, that all that stuff still comes with it. The price in the mid 1990's was around $100.00, so I kinda doubt the kit still comes with everything today.
The dealer parts locator website is down, so I can't tell you who might have one. If one of the FTE sponsors does, it would be a simple matter to have them look inside and see.
I'll look up the original 1973 kit part number and search for some as soon as the locator comes back up.
Will post the info here.

I bought the tool from the snap on guy when I worked in a tint shop, use a little armor all or similar product on both the rubber and the plastic chrome strip and you can slip it in less than 2 minutes. When you are pulling the tool and the strip around you just hold it at the right angle to keep from scuffing the strip and brace yourself so if it slips out you don't scratch the paint.
