Rear Window Seal

Just installed a new rear window seal in my 70 f100. I didn't have time to install the chrome, because I had to drive it home and the install took longer than I thought. I know it is impossible to put the trim in with the window installed, but my question is, can I remove the glass without destroying this brand new seal? Thanks in advance! I always get great help here!

This will be good to know. So let us know how it works out.
I think I would try to roll it from the inside out. Starting along the bottom edge a bit at a time. Might need a "catcher" in the bed. Try squirting something slippery in the gap. Soapy water. Somehow.
Are you going to try to re-install with the stainless trim?

Yes. The seal that was in it didn't have the gap for the trim, but I'm trying to make it look like my dad's truck. I originally pulled this truck from the junk yard for parts to fix my dad's, but daddy's was just too far gone. So I pulled the parts I could off my dad's and put them on this one, and this trim was on his.

If it's a new gasket with the slot for the stainless,,, and you didn't install the stainless,,, then it should be easy to get the window back out.
But if there's any evidence of a tear or damage in the process then just get a new one.

As mentioned use a helper, go easy and you should be successful. The rubber has not had time to set.

It's a PIA, but lube the inside lip with Vasaline. Personally, i would start on the sieds and top so helper can lift the glass from the bottom pinch weld. As previously commented, if it's torn get a new one.

So here's what happened. Got the glass out with no problem at all. Took about 5 minutes. But then... We started trying to get the seal on the glass, and the stainless in the seal. Apparently I nor my friend have the skills to accomplish both at the same time, and he's a former Ford mechanic! The seal seemed to be just a little too long. When I started putting the trim on it would not stay on the glass. We finally put our rope in the other groove and tightened it up. That almost worked, but when we started putting the window in, all but one of the trim pieces came out. By then it had taken three hours, so I decided I could live without the trim. I hate that it happened that way, but at least it doesn't leak anymore.

Where did you buy your seal from?

Order one from DC. That LMC one will be cracked in a few years. First install the seal on the glass and use tape to hold it in location. Wrap the tape so it sticks to one side of the glass and goes over the seal and sticks to the other side. When you start installing the trim; remove the tape from where the first section of trim goes. Just like when installing the glass, use soapy water to install the trim. Use a plastic scraper or something to help spread open the rubber to get the trim in the groove. Once you start getting the trim in the groove use the tape again to hold the areas that are in the groove in place so they won't come out. I did the seal and trim install this way by my self and it worked great. Then I installed the rope and my dad helped me put the window in. Also, there is a specific location for the seal on the outside groove of the window frame. If you push it in too far your trim will start coming out of the groove.

Thanks for the advice! I never thought about using the tape. I guess I'll hang on to the trim until this gasket fails, and then try again! Thanks again for all of the help!
