Exhaust Smoke

I have a 2001 F-250 7.3 and am still having this problem with this real fine white exhaust smoke that never fades even after the engine has warmed up, it has 220,856 miles on it and other than it kind of lopes at idle it doesn’t have any performance problems, I recently replaced the injector o-rings but it didn’t help, it smells like the truck is running rich but it doesn’t throw any codes, hasn’t got any play in the turbo, its real easy to start and I don’t notice any smoke on startup, I’m beginning to think that it may be the injectors but I’m open for any other suggestions
Thanks

Welcome to FTE!! I'm not sure that a bit of smoke on an engine with almost a quarter million miles isn't to be expected. I'm sure you're getting a little blow-by. Have you done the CCV mod? If not, what's the smoke look like if you take the oil fill cap off?

Thanks for your reply, yes I have done the CVV mod and I wouldn’t say that it has excessive blow by and it is a steady stream

remove your radiator fill cap, look under the cap and see if there is a white cloudy haze looking goo on it.

From Diesel Man....

Smoke analysis
<DL><DT>White smoke: <DD>Caused by unburned fuel passing through the engine. Some white smoke is normal on cold start-ups.
Excessive white smoke could be an indication of inoperative glow plugs, loose injectors, low compression from worn rings or bent connecting rods, or coolant leak into the cylinders--head gasket or injector well sleeves. <DT>Black smoke: <DD>Caused by excessive fuel for the amount of air drawn into the cylinders. Some black smoke on hard accel or at higher altitudes is normal.
Excessive black smoke could result from restricted intake or exhaust, inoperative leaking or weak turbo, intake hose(s) leaks, leaking or worn injectors, fuel return or supply restriction, stuck Exhaust backPressure Regulator valve or solenoid. Also PCM inputs such as BARO MAP ICP or EBP sensors. <DT>Blue or blue/white smoke: <DD>Caused by insufficient fuel or oil consumption. Normal when engine is cold or idling for extended periods.
Excessive smoke could be caused by air in the fuel, contaminated fuel, loose or plugged injectors, worn or leaking injector o-rings, thermostat stuck open, oil consumption, or plugged crankcase depression regulator valve. Also PCM inputs such as MAP or ICP sensors.</DD></DL>

Its not a large amount of smoke its just enough to be noticeable and it doesn’t seem to smoke under heavy acceleration or at high RPM it just seems to be present at idle

I just had a problem with white smoke that appears to have been attributed to bad fuel. I am not exactly sure how it went bad, but I solved the problem by completely draining the fuel bowl. Easy fix if it works...

I have thought that it was just bad fuel and hoped that it was but Iv had this problem for about four or five months and have changed the fuel filter twice and have been putting diesel fuel supplement in at every fill up

Have someone check EOT as it compares to ambient air temp..

Check fuel pressure,,,,& ICP...

You will need a scanner......

Well just got done hauling hay for some guy that bought 100 round bales so
I really worked it hard today, when I got home I let it set and idle for a few minuets so i wanted to see just how bad it was smoking now that I know that it was good and hot and found that there is oil or something coming out the exhaust is this a sign that my turbo is going or maybe I didn’t get the injector o-rings on right
thanks

turbo seals could be goin out, pop the intake off at the turbo and check for end play, also while your in there see how much is being drawn up through the crankcase vent

There really didn’t seem to be any play in the turbo that I could tell other than there may have been the tiniest bit of up/down movement might just had been my imagination and I have done the CCV about a month ago
