Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse or relay specifically for getting 12 volt power to the trailer. In my last pickup all I had to do was take a dummy fuse out and put a real one in. Is that the case with our trucks? Do I need to run a specific wire?
Not sure about the dummy relays. Did you try swapping a couple relays?
IF the relay is good, the wire going back is broken. Take a look at the connector(s) under the truck for the trailer plug harness too. It's a pretty simple circuit that usually has corrosion or broken wire problems.
Can anybody give me an idea where the 2 relays (charge and reverse) for the trailer are hiding? I have a 97 F350 and they are not in the power box under the hood. I do not see any other small power boxes hiding anywhere either. A pic would be great if anybody can help out.
those two relays are usually attached to the back side (between the fuse panel and firewall, right on the panel itself but not under the cover) of the underhood fuse panel.
Thanks for the info. I went back out this morning and found the harnesses have been knocked off of the fuse box and are laying on the inner fender. I will have to pick up the relays and should be good to go.
Ok after digging into this issue further today here is what I found....hope it keps some others from beating their heads into the wall like I was doing. My truck was never equipped with the relays or the base for them. There were 2 round 4 pin plugs (one gray and one black) that were capped and attached to the inner fender just below the rear of the fuse box. This is where the base for the 2 relays attaches. I hit up a parts truck and grabbed what I needed. I now have reverse lights and power to my 7 pin RV connector.
