Best power source for fuel pressure meter

I have to tap a 12 volt + and a light source for my meter. Did you pick it up in the fuse box or somewhere else?

Thanks,

Steve

For the light source wouldn't you want to come off of your headlight switch? I don't know what to tell you on the other.

I think that is one possibility, although the power draw for the light is so small, I suspect the instrument lights or radio would also carry it. I am just looking for best practices and so many folks here are running gauges, I am just trying to save time.

There should be a light blue wire with a pink trace under the steering column that is for customer accessories. It is the 4th fuse up in the right hand row (passenger side) in the fuse box under the steering column. Should be a 10A fuse. Although, I think I used the radio fuse and taped that when I installed my ISSPRO gauges.

RiffRaff has some good installation PDFs, I'll attach the gauge install PDF below.

Also pic from Diesel Manor showing another place to tap the wire Sous mentioned for gauge illumination. Headlight switch panel just pops out.

Thanks, I found that one and ran a copy as well as a couple of others. I have everything hanging right now.

Continuing along with the gauge questions, did you use the high or the low pressure port on the back of the filter bowl. I have read arguments for both. The higher port is easier to reach and reads only the pump pressure. The lower reads pressure after the filter. I change my filter about every 10,000 miles do I am not overly concerned about pressure after the filter, unless there is something I am missing.

Personally I don't think that you are missing anything. Either way the first thing you are going to do if you have a fuel issue is open that filter up. Of course if you're feeling rambunctious you could install one of each.

Steve, this really is personal preference. Most of us install the sensor in the post filter port because that is what we are most concerned about. If you change your filter regularly, then there is no issue with installing the sensor pre-filter which as you said is an easier install.

I will be installing the 90 degree bend on my fuel bowl when I remove it in the following weeks to rebuild and reseal it. The reason for this is the HPOP line going to the passenger head is a little to close for comfort the the back of the sensor with the ISSPro and thread adapter coming off the fuel bowl.

I don't think this is a problem for all trucks, but seems to be for mine. If I were not installing the 90 degree elbow, I would be moving the sensor to the pre-filter port.

What I have ended up doing so far is using the upper plug, but still using an ell vertically to avoid the jam up behind the filter housing. For the ignition hot for the meter, I used a fuse tap in the fuse panel inserting in the front wiper fuse so the wire runs inside the fuse pane under the cover.

I haven't decided where I want to tap the dimmer circuit for the meter light yet. Maybe at the light switch. I have it out but haven't probed the wires yet. Mostly it is the awkwardness working under the dash and climbing up on top of the motor.

Thanks,

Steve

Well, it's in, it works, and it looks pretty good. Took a fair amount of trimming for the pedestal mount on the steering column, but my Dremel took care of that.

Appreciate all the help,

Steve
