Fuel Filter(s)

Fuel Filter(s)
I'm changing the fuel filters in my "86 BII. I have a filter canister on the drivers side frame rail between the tank and high pressure fuel pump. Then I also have an in-line filter op on the fron of the driver's side frame rail by the front tire down stream from the high pressure fuel pump. When I removed the bowl for the canister fillter there was no filter in it also the large o-ring was to big for the grove but it had not been leaking (the snot had ben tightened out of it). The large o-ring that came with the new filter is to small to stretch out to fit in the o-ring grove. So, I'm on my way back to the auto parts store to get a new o-ring. I'm figguring that sence I allready have the in-line installed and have bought the canister filter also I'll just use both does any boudy see any potential problems with this idea?

Nope, I ran a BII with both filters for a long time with no problems. I suggest lubing the O-Ring before installing so it does not tear.

That is normal. On one of mine, I had to remove it from the vehicle, put it in a vise, and open it with water pump plyers.

The o-ring realy was to small. The guys at the parts store pulled an oring from another box and it fit. I had to hold it in with grease to get it to stay in the grove while I reassambled the canister. I had remembered a post about this canister being a pain so I didn't even try undoing it under te truck. I just pulled it; now I'm glad that I did. Thanxs for the help and advise.

Well, when I replaced mine, I disconnected the wiring to the inertia switch and bled the pressure off the system by starting it and letting it die. I had some spillage, but not a continuous flow. Plus, I was also parked on an incline with the tank below the level of the filter canister.
I'll have to see if there is actually a second hi-pressure filter on mine later and replace that one as well... maybe while I'm doing the cold air intake mod... seems I have some rough idle / high-idle misfiring going on that I need to track down.

i just stretched my 2nd o-ring on the canister filter on my '86 BII, i have been troubleshooting a fuel delivery problem. i dont think i have the sealed in-line filter also, but i'll check, our '90 towncar has that type. the parts store did offer me both, if i have both, i would not mess with refilling the canister type again. thanks for the "heads up"
