Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
the fuel lines run on the driver frame rail. directly under the rear of the cab sits the inline fuel filter on the SUPPLY line. directly below the filter is the quick disconnect on the stainless steel RETURN line.
i disconnected the RETURN line at this fitting and when i did, 4 things dropped out of the female end of the quick disconnect. They are: a steel sleeve (ring), a plastic sleeve (ring), a black rubber O-ring, and a blue rubber O-ring.
Now these parts shouldn't have come out, but they did. I'm not sure I collected everything, but i think i did and I have no idea what order they are supposed to go back in. Does anyone have an exploded view of this fitting and these parts? Any idea why these parts would have fallen out?
i've disconnected lots and lots of Ford fuel lines and have never had anything like this happen. can anyone help?? thanks.
It states " Fuel tube should be replaced if internal parts are damaged. " This does not make sense to me because when I was shown how to do these fittings, the mechanic stated that if the inside parts get damaged they can be replaced. You could try at your local parts store and see if they have the internals. If so they may have a diagram as well. Another place to try might be from a Ford dealership. If you have already thought of, and tried this, I am out of ideas.
no local parts stores were of help. i went to one ford dealer and they were worthless. a second i went to were much more compentent, but have never come across this issue. there are 2 other dealers i'm going to try.
and a new line is about $400 bucks - i like the idea of replacing the O-rings a lot better (if possible)
i slid the 4 pieces over the male end. first the metal sleeve, followed by the plastic sleeve, followed by the blue O ring, then the black O ring. i then attempted to connect the line and it snapped right into place. i ran the motor at idle for about 5 minutes and keep a close eye on it - not a drop. i then wrapped the connection in a papertowel and went for a 15 minute ride. i got home, removed the paper towel, and not a spot on it - not even a smell of fuel.
so i think i got it taken care of. maybe this thread can help someone out in the future that comes across this odd occurance.
