can I add home link? how much?

I got an 04 XLT SCrew. An earlier post about adding a door keypad got me wondering if I can add homelink to my truck. If so how much does it cost? Where do I get it??

TIA -jim

Ebay for the transmitter, about $30. I bought one for my expy and installed it into the visor. When you take the cloth off the visor you can see the outline of where the transmitter is suppose to go. I just cut that area out with my dremel and affixed the homelink module. I just ordered one for my F150 on Monday. I'll take some pics when I do the install once I receive the module.

homelink

Is it battery powered or does it require a wired connection? If so, is the truck already wired for homelink?

Just requires a 12volt constant, I use the vanity mirror light. It receives a constant 12volt.

What does it look like??

I got a few questions about the visor installation; Is the range better than the remote that comes w/ the opener? How many buttons does it have? Is this the same product as factory-equipped vehicles?

thanks -jim

Not sure about the range, but I've never noticed a difference between the transmitter that came with my Sears opener and the homelink opener. The homelink has 3 buttons, and a red light. There is a house symbol around the red light on the plastic trim piece. Make sure that the house symbol is on the plastic trim piece, that means its the homelink transmitter that supports rolling codes, which is what almost all garage door openers are these days. As far as I know homelink provides the same transmitter module to all the auto makers. The one that I put in my Expy came out of a Chrysler Cirrus.

mine came factory installed and I noticed the range is farther than the Sears remote. Probably because of the constant strong 12V power versus a dry cell battery getting weaker over time.

Thanks for that info.I'm looking for something with better range than my Craftsman door opener remote. It used to work from almost 100ft, now I have to sit in front of my door and hit the button about 10 times before the door opens.I replaced the remote with a new one and it still doesn't have crap for range. My Genie on the other door works fine.Maybe I'll try Homelink and get all of the remotes out of my truck.

you can also buy aftermarket rearview mirrors with built in homelink... if you dont have a factory thermometer/compass, it would be a nice addition.... down side is that to get one with all the features (maplights/homelink/compass/temp) you will pay about 300.00.

check with the salvage yards for Lariat visors with homelink with same cloth color as yoru truck.
may be cheaper than buying the module and installing, but then, may be more. Not sure how much the salvage yards are making on the homelinks or if there is a high demand.
