Pass. Side Hood Hinge Rubs Hood?

First, you need ot know this truck was smacked by a motorcycle on the drivers side, and it twaeked the hood, and the fender. So I'm replacing these parts, got a junkyard hood and fender, then a hinge(the hinge is from another truck all together.) I put the newish hood on, and got it somewaht aligned, go to close it, and the pass. side hinge bows out, and rubs the hood! this is exactly why i was replacing the other hinge, I thought was damaged from the impact.

Due to the design of the hinge, i thought it had been bend, because if it was pushed form the drivers side, it is weak that way, and vise-versa with the driver's hinge.

bottom line, is this a common problem, do i need to get a new hinge (LMC sells for $70) , or will i be able to find a junkyard one thats ok. (I wish I would have closed the hood @ the Junkyard!!)

That hood hinge assembly looks bent. Either that or your passenger inner fender is pushed out.

if the bike hit hard enough it could have flexed the fenders over leaving the hood in place which would bend the hinge, Like whiplash to the neck. I would find it hard to believe a motorcycle would be heavy enough to do this. But then I saw a bronco II take out a dually axle(rear) with minimal damage to the bronco II

It looks like to me that the whole hood shifted toward the drivers side. The passenger side hinge in the pic looks bent toward the drivers side. Post a pic of the the other side and that hinge is probably also bent, but would not rub because of the way the bends are directioned.

The hinge is bent, replacements can be had by the thousands in salvage yards. You may have to massage the hinge mounting surface also.

Here is the other side.

Basicly These images depict the "new" hood and hinge. I'm wondering why the new hinge is bending the same as the old hinge.

Is this a common problem? if so i'd rather not waist my time hunting for hinges at pick-n-pull, and just order a new one.

And if any of you would be kind enough to look at your truck's hinges and see if you can tell how mine differs... is the driver's side damaged? it looks like it's ok to me?

also this hood closes and all body lines line-up... so i'm thinking the "new" hinge was already damaged.

thanks for your responses!!

According to the pictures the drivers side looks OK, the passenger side is all bent out of shape.

I started a thread recently about adjusting the hood. NumberDummy told me an interesting story.

Ford hood hinges were never good straight from factory. They often worked loose. Then they hood would fly up while driving if they aren't completly latched down. This causes bends and stretches to the hinges. Then people would lower the hood down to near the latch and pound it down hard to latch it completely.

This happened to mine, and the hood is way off. It doesn't align and close down completely. It looks like yours suffered from the same fate. I am getting a used set from a 2nd-gen Bronco that had reinforcements from factory. I'd suggest you to replace both hinges from a good known working set.

Are the bronco hinges built better? I think i saw a few of them at pick-n-pull last time I was there.

So it sounds like hood abuse is common, I guess I'll take another stab at recycled hinges, i'll just make sure they are a good set, would like to know more about the bronco's hinges though...

Your drivers side looks OK.

The hood hinges for F series and Broncos are the same. Here is a thread in which Dennis describes the hinges and brackets from certain F series and Broncos.

The links Bucks77 provided was what I talking about - they had to reinforce the hinges so the soft canopy wouldn't shatter from a flying hood. Ford, eh?

If the passenger inner fender is bowed out it would cause the hinge to bend also. Check the drivers side fender and inner fender for warpage due to impact.
