Rumors are flying again that Pontiac will bring back the Firebird and Firebird Trans AM... The retro look dominates but a few new looks too... These are the most popular...
Man I love the retro look. I would tke any of them except the last two big pics. I wish they would have them the exact same as in 1978. Same style, with the Bandit graphics and a 455 as a standard motor. Only difference is have the options of a newer car like A/C, PW, ETC... They would sell so many of them. That 1978 Trans Am is one of my favorite cars of all time.
The new Camaro and Trans Am are garish caricatures of the originals, and as such not truly retro. That is why the new Mustang is so popular - it smoothly blends hints of the early Mustangs into a modern theme without being cartoonish. (in my humble but accurate opinion IMHBAO)
They seem to have very little likeness to their older counterparts. The mustang has more of the retro look. From what I have seen the challenger is going to be about the closest thing to the original yet.
In my opinion none of them hold a candle to the older models.
The new stangs are so retro I have to look twice to see if it's old or new. Thats why I bought one, because they look old, hood pins, hood scoops, rear window louvers, even hurst shifters, there bad to the bone. The great thing is that thier even faster than the old ones. My 68 mustang fastback GT, 428 CJ and 4 speed in stock trim ran the quater in 14.3, my 07 GT 281, 5-speed all stock, burns up the quater in 13.56 and it only has a 281 CID engine. A couple of bolt ons and it's in the 12's. Now ford and Roush are playing with a 7 liter mod motor thats putting out 700 hp all motor. It's for future stangs, lightings and other ford toys. The muscle car is back with a vengence.
they are gawdy looking. the new "gto" was all but a failure also.
the retro thing is a fad that has come and gone. the mustang did it right, looks smooth, lines are great and did not look cartoonish like other retro models that have came out.
the new trans am will still look like an off shoot of a grand prix i bet, pontiac can not seem to get away from that style.
Betcha Ole Burt is just thinking about "Smokey And The Bandit IV!"
I'd watch it! The first one is my favorite movie ever. I know every single line by heart. I would do anything for a nicely restored 1978 Trans Am with the origional bandit package.
