loose P/S pully, or bad pump?
Ive got an 82 f150, with a 302, no ac, and power stearing...
With the engine running, the power stearing pully wobbles back and forth. With it off, I can pull/push the pully about 1/4"
Theres an spot for an allen wrench on the frount of the pully. I tried to turn it, and it just spun the pully. It's not stripped, its just that its "stuck" to the pully, and wont budge.
Is my P/S pump bad, or can I tighten it? If so, how do I do that? The pully has a round part around the socket cap screw, and it looks like somebody put a vicegrips on it.
Tks alot

There is a special removal tool for taking the pulley off and putting it back on. It can be done with the PS unit in the vehicle. You can get the tool from Autozone on their tool lender program. This is the right way to remove and replace the PS pulley. Not sure if the end play of a 1/4 inch is a problem or not, but it does seem excessive. If the unit is not leaking then it sounds like lateral play isn't a problem. I would get the tool and remove the pulley and check everything out.
