Telescoping Mirrors on a 1997 F250?

I am trying to figure out how I can replace the stock (small) mirrors on my '97 F250. I think what I can do is take the wing out of the windows and mount them there. It will take some customization. Any Ideas?!! I think it would look awsome when done and will be better when towing my gooseneck trailer.

Any response would be appreciate!!

Welcome to the site!

I have seen a '92-'97 truck where the owner installed "Super Duty" TTT mirrors, so it can be done. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I saw it.

Have you considered purchasing the "tow mirrors" that were available on the '97s? You can buy a sliding bar at almost any RV store to make them telescopic.

No Mo,

The TTT mirrors are what I would really like to have, I'm not sure what the other mirrors are that you are talking about. I have looked at the OEM towing mirrors for '97, they are stainless steel. I guess I really am set on the TTT's. If anyone has put these on the earlier models or even has some pics, I would really like to see them for ideas.

Thanks! 2434

Sorry MFD2434,

I posted a website where someone has done what you're asking. But, that part of my post was censored because someone here thinks that site a "competitor" in the advertising market. Ford-trucks.com used to be all about the information... now it's just about the money. I guess if you can't beat them with content, just filter their name so it appears they don't exist.

No Mo,

I would really like to see those pics. I have looked through Ford-Trucks and can't seem to find any pics with the mods that I want to make! Any other way of viewing such pics?

I ran into this same issue recently. I sold my 03 F350 SD diesel truck and kept my 97 F250 Diesel truck and wanted to add some of the features from the 03 to my 97, the mirror situation being one of a few. I got online and ordered a set of telescoping mirrors and was ready to install them when I realized that there was no way it was going to happen because of the wing windows. I felt more than a little stupid for not putting that together before ordering, but that's how I roll lol. Anyways I'm also not easily defeated so I broke out the laptop and google search and went to work on finding a solution. I located a guy on fleabay that sells custom cut metal plates that weld in to the corners of the wing windows, and that allow for installation of the newer style telescoping mirrors. I did have to send my Ford mirrors back because his plates are cut to fit the older style Fords but are adapted to the GMC mirrors which are identical with the exception of the bolt pattern and that they don't have so much access on the backside to contend with when installing them. He provided me with a video that step by step shows how to install them, when done, cosmetically they look great and work perfectly and best of all the wing window goes back in and still opens and closes, if you like to use them, I don't but it looks nice that way. I talked with our local auto body guy this morning, he figured about two hours labor, maybe three but he's always good to me on charges anyways, to put them in and paint everything up so it flushes with my truck and keeps it looking nice. I'm not bragging, too much anyways, lol, but my truck is a head turner, I get compliments on it all the time, my wife calls it my mistress and she isn't wrong. I really love it, I've driven Ford trucks all my life and this is the 3rd blue an white I've owned and I'm thinking will be my last, with no intentions of ever parting company with it. I hope this helps someone else. feel free to message for more specific details. I just want to be careful not to promote businesses in a forum, some really frown on that and I want to get off to a good start around here.

This isn't mine but just a photo to give you an idea. I am going to do this someday to my 1986 f350, I remember a while ago I found a thread where someone did a how to but I can't remember where I found it. Its been a while but it can be done. They say dodge tow mirrors fit better but I would prefer the ford mirrors personally.

mirrors installed today, I really like the finished product and feel like the designer of these mount templates got it right. still have my wing windows, they open and close, great visibility both through the wings and through the mirrors.

Your thoughts and opinions are welcome. The body shop said he wouldn't mind doing more of these if someone else wanted to go this route. I couldn't be any happier with the outcome. After reading through some other members experiences I was prepared for the worst but they were everything I'd hoped for.
