My wifes '54 F250 mirrors are awful.
When looking out the drivers side all that is seen is the spare.
The other is not much better because of the size.
I think they are just stock aftermarket.

Any suggestions for something better?
Here is what I have on my two trucks. This is what these trucks were supplied with if the owner bought this option at the dealer.
Here is a New Old Stock mirror and arm.
They do give you good sight lines on both sides. What Harrier did for his 55 F250 was to buy good used ones from Terry's F100 parts. Maybe he will be along soon to show you his and to give you his number.
^ This is the original part number, Ford later replaced it with:
B6TZ-17696-A .. Outside Mirror Kit-Telescoping Type with approx. 5" mirror head / Obsolete
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either part number, but...
There is another telescoping type for 1953/56 w/a 6" mirror head, plus 1957/66's also had slots in the doors, so there are more of these mirrors, some telescope, some do not.
The thing is, no one repro's these mirrors. What is commonly seen on these trucks are the chrome mirrors with the 5" mirror head. These were introduced in 1955 and are repro'd.
But the rear vision is sadly wanting, plus Ford changed the design of the mirror head circa 1960, making the rear vision even worse.
first photo is what the truck had when I got it. ok for around town but not so good when pulling my travel trailer. So I fabricated a pair from some 3/4" emt, 1/2" pipe fittings, and some 1/2" nuts and bolts and repurposed the black plastic clip on mirrors that I used to use on my suburban. Really low $$.
Our 55s look like das54s small round where I can get a sort of decent view with the drivers side. but terrible with the passenger side. I had no idea about reproductions noted by numberdummy. Where are they available?

Thanks for the info.
What Bill, Number Dummy, meant was the round chrome ones are reproduced but the original square ones that measure 6 x 6 with the extendable arms are not reproduced. The round chrome ones did not appear on trucks until 1957.
I can't get the passenger side to telescope, which is a bit frustrating. He told me it didn't but I was hoping I could get it loosened up. So far no luck, but I did figure out I can get a 1/2 inch socket in the top hole. So, I will try some penetrant and maybe some heat and have some torque on the rod to see if it will loosen up.
I'm thinking about getting a couple of larger mirror heads. I will wait until my flatbed is completed before I make that decision though.
Dadgonebroke, be sure to let us know how your trip goes.

How long ago did you get them? They dont look very new.
Think ive still got a pair of FoMoCo mirrors telescoping square or rectangular nos in the box somewhere. Dont recall the part number. Ill have to dig them out.
My 51 f2 would have originally had round mirrors but I wasnt 100% sure if i may use these 53 to 55 style mirrors or not.
