Oh Man!! Jeez! I am REALLY sorry to read about your recent and tragic loss! How is the rest of the family coping with it? Man, that's gotta be tough!

Just out of curiosity, what was the exact cause of death? One too many smoky burnouts off of the light? One too many overloaded trailer pulls? or was it just one of those things like a myocardial infarction right out of left field? Just askin' cause like thousands of others, I have the same tranny in my old girl!

Cheers! And many thousands of happy miles out of your rebuild!

Mike

Don't grieve for too long! Even at a young age, your transmission outlived about 95% of Dodge truck auto trannies out there! Oooooohhh, low blow...

I honestly think that Dodge designs their Autos for 60k miles, anything above that is just a bonus. Trust me, I know first hand.

I think one of the most stout auto trannies in the 90s was the 700R4/4L60E (GM). Those were good trannys. I know that first hand too... Between towing and playing with trucks with huge tires and big engines, I never put a cent into those trannies and they never gave out.

This is my first experience with an E40D, and I am a bit skeptical, but will keep my fingers crossed.

family is coping very well...LOL
It was a instant and complete shock of a death...Never had any problems with it..
It was just out of nowhere..About 1:00pm yesterday I noticed a severe shudder and then as I was going down the road Complete failure....Lucky I was only 5 min. away from in laws...Made it there had it towed to trans shop for a complete rebuild...

Dale you are right about the Dodge Trans. they are junk...My brother has a 2002 full size, never tows and he drives like a old school marm...His went out on him only after 42,000 miles...
The trans shop that is doing the work My family has known them for at least 15yrs.
My Dad was in the Navy with the owner and he has always given us great deals on Trans. work...For the complete rebuild new T.C. and with all the upgrades It's only $1150.00....Cant complain about the price at all...

I have always hated to take my vehicles into shops because most of them arent very honest....I completely trust him and has always been a good friend to us ...
Thanks to all who have replied ....Words on comfort in out time of grief always helps..LOL

Mine may be heading for tranny heaven soon too. The one in my 91 Lariat with the 5.8 engine "Bangs" whenever shifting for I think 2nd to 3rd. I have asked questions about some fix for it such as a switch gone bad or something, but haven't figured it out yet. How much does it cost to rebuild those puppies?

Mine is $1150.00....But that is with a good discount....My dad has been friends with the owner for at least 15 years...Since they both retired from the same squadron in the Navy years ago...Aslo after the rebuild He is giving me a 2 year unconditional warranty parts and labor...You wont find that anywhere...Having friends is a great thing especilly in the trans. Business..

Most places around me are between $1800 - $2600 with only 6 - 12 month warranty...
