Keyless entry

Keyless entry
I am wanting to place the keyless entry pad on my 2k2 SD CC. Was it an option on the SD's in 02? My old Excursion had the keyless entry and I loved being able to unlock it with the engine running. Is it wired for it? Would the keypad replace the door handle? Are there any other options?

Hello,
There are two types of keypads for the keyless entry used by Ford. The ones on the 05's are hardwired into the vehicle security module, located behind the middle lower section where the paper bag holder is at using connector C2113c on the VSM. (BTW a bit of FYI, the 5 digit factory code is printed on this module (VSM), no need to pay the dealer to get it, although its much quicker to hook up the computer to it instead of tearing out the dash to get the number. I guess you need to decide if its worth a few hours of your time in case you lost or never got the factory number with your truck.)
Anyway there are others that are wireless that can be put in the same spot. You will notice that at least in the 2005 manual for programming additional key fobs into the system (max of 4) that the first step after entering programming mode is to press the 7/8 9/0 button to program the "wireless keypad in". This will NOT work on the 05's (make assumption 06) due to they are hard wired, a plus here is that they don't count as a FOB and you can actually program 4 FOB's in.
The factory ones on eBay that I have seen are for the wireless version. They could be put anywhere on the vehicle (i.e. in the back bed somewhere or under something etc).
If you don't have the keypad hole in the door you would need to cut that out, or simply put the wireless version somewhere else.
I have seen the real Ford OEM versions go for $79 on eBay. Seems like a good deal if you wanted one for something. Keep in mind that the wireless version will count as one FOB to the system.
Hope this is clear as mud now...
Thanks,
Chris

To add to this, when I got my truck, it had a card in the glove box with the code for the keypad although it did not have one. The 2003 Excursion did have the keypad option.
I wonder if it is as simple as buying the 2003 Excursion keypad (I found it for $26,) cut a hole and plug it in???
I like the wired version much better than the wireless because it will turn the lights on when you touch it the first digit.

I got a Ford stick-on keypad for my 2000 of Ebay for about $60. It works great, but will not operate when the engine is running.
However, from all the reading I've done, on 2002 models and UP, it WILL operate with the engine running, so yours should be able to work. You can find them on Ebay for pretty cheap. Search for Ford Keypad, or Superduty keypad, or Superduty keyless or something like that. If you don't find one right away keep trying.
