Harvest Moon

Friday night, August 19th. Full moon. Hopefully the weather holds. Hopefully the mosquitoes won't be too bad. Thanks to my old neighbors from back in my farming days, I have a location to shoot. It all depends on the weather. Just have to make sure the camera is ready and the gas tank is full.

So, anyone else out there who gets excited about the Harvest Moon? I miss the times when I used to be out haying under the Harvest Moon.

My grandparents owned a grain elevator in the central part of California and I remember the warm summer nights, looking up at the moon and stars and smelling the wonderful aroma of all the fresh cut grasses, sourgum, cotton seed and all the other grains. They smelt good enough to eat. The summer of 1963! I'll remember those times till the day I die. It just don't get any better than that. Will it ever?

I remember the harvest moon from cutting hay late into the night during August. We cut hay for several farmers in the community I grew up in & it was always a rush to get the last cutting in before fall. Its the end of summer & the beginning of hunting season to me.

sorry to say but that's the Sturgeon moon and not the Harvest moon, as the Harvest moon usually falls in September and or October, the Harvest moon is the full moon closest to the Autuminal equinox which is around september 23rd.

Wasn't there a movie called Harvest Moon, Doris Day or something and a song Shine On Harvest Moon? Shine on, shine on Harvest Moon... something... for me and my gal... something.

That's right hawk. I met my wife on September the 8th and the next full moon was the Harvest Moon.

This year the full moon of harvest is on Sept 17th.

And the same day the next month is the Hunter's Moon (Oct 17th) - that's what I'm waiting on. It'll be cool enough down here to build a fire by then.

I was out at 11:00 pm last night and saw the preliminary Full Moon.
It was huge & appears so close.

thats an illusion, the moon only appears larger and cloer but it is actually the same size at moonrise as it is at it's higest point in the sky.

Yeah, you know what, the full moon is defiitely gettingclose. My buddy and I went out to the bar last night, which we don't normally do, and agreed that something about the night just felt weird. Both of us met two of the most beautiful blonde girls ever. Smart, funny, really attractive, and for some godforsaken reason, they liked us. Definitely almost full...Friday night, here I come.

Interestingly enough, by old definition, this full moon is a Blue Moon. According to that, the third full moon during a season which will have four, is the Blue Moon.

Rather than the modern definition that says any month that has two full moons, the second will be a Blue Moon. That definition only dates back a few decades.
