Maggots in Trash

Last week our trash cans started smelling real bad with the hot weather we been experiencing. Well after we washed them out couple days later one is filled with maggots(YUCK!) Ive poured bleach in it to try to kill them or make them leave but no good, Ive sprayed them with about all the crap I got in our cabinet.(LOL) When we put our trash in them we usually tie our bags shut. I just wonder why they are there once we washed and bleached the cans, but not before...Anyone got tips on getting rid of them?

I would just hose them out and let them dry in the hot sun for a day or two.

What are you talking about?

I think yout talking about the trash in the house garbage can, which IS NOT what Im talking about, as I am referring to the trash cans outside the garbage men empty which is once a week, and its tonight so tomorrow weather permitting Im running to the store and getting some more bleach.

I also realized there all over the ground where the trash cans sit...Man its nasty looking. I just wonder why all of a sudden after they were cleaned there all over...

It sounds like a bag with something sweet split open and leaked. Flies will continue to land there and lay eggs until the sweet smell is gone, and bleach won't do it without doing it in really high concentrations.
Not to repeat and old saying, but you might want to spray the area down with a 50/50 vinegar/water mix, and then hose everything down thoroughly.

If they are metal cans pour a little gas in and light it, that will take care of em.

Sounds like FREE BAIT. Time to go fishing for some panfish.
OOPS I see you are in Arizona sorry.
I'd try ammonia since bleach didn't work.

Look for small holes on the bottom of the cans by filling with water. Flies are getting in some how.
