Ford owns Cummins, Not!

After reading some other threads, I am wondering what the history is to this rumor, did Ford buy some stock in Cummins or was it because they use Cummins in the bigger trucks?
If anyone knows the facts behind this I would love to know

Also I heard rumor that one of the big 3 was looking at Catapiller to build their light duty diesel.
Thanks DJ

I was told by a Ford salesman that Ford owns Cummins, and just last week I was told that the possibility of the Super Duty trucks having a Cummins motor is becoming more likely.

here we go again. This is one of my pet peeves.

Go to this thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=358412
Near the bottom of page 4 is where I began my most recent debunking of this myth.

At one time, Ford owned a part of Cummins, however, about the same time that Ford sold their Heavy Truck part of the business, they also sold their share of Cummins.

That's right, kinda like me saying I own part of Merck because I am a stockholder. Ford owned Cummins stock, about 3% of the total at large shares at the time. Ford sold it's stock in 1997.
