Pfft, forget Cummins. If they're gonna change put in a CAT. Nothing like a yellow pu$$ycat under the bonnet! A C7 at 350hp would make a very nice package indeed (accepting that it is cylinder deficient). Put a manual Eaton trans behind that and I'd be in heaven.
Problem is the engine bay of an F-series SD may not like the length of the inline engine.
will we please stop with this stupid rumor!!! i been hearing about it for at least....lets say 6 or 7 years.
cummins is good but beleive it or not, its not the end all of performance, they also break, don't last forever, etc etc......a higher power didn't build the dang thing.
Ford fans couldn't be that lucky. A higher power didn't build the Cummins, but it looks like the devil had some input with the 6.0. BTW, it's in my best interest that Ford does well. No flaming, just observation.
I believe one day they will, b/c now that Mercedez has bought Chrysler I believe that when Dodge's 20 year contract with Cummins runs out in 2009, Mercedez will have come out with an engine for them, and when Ford's contract with International runs out (I don't know when), It just might happen. And also, BF250, a cummins might not last forever, but a friend of mine has a 92 with 650,000 miles on it, he has replaced everything in it except the Engine. I will dog the Dodge, but I will not dog the Cummins.
I've posted this before, and I'll make the statement again- Ford and Navistar are joined at the hip the same way Cummins and Dodge are. Part of this has to do with the fact they're both committing money to projects we may not even see for a decade- it's never as simple as it looks on the surface.
They've been using them in the F650 & bigger trucks for years.
You can get the Cummins as a base engine but many of the F650s I've seen lately have CATs in them. Check out www.f650pickups.com they have some bad *** trucks.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't the C7 actually a perkapillar? Cat did buy perkins and in reality some of there engines are just a yeller perkins.
Of course with the high cost or ford parts a cat would fit right in. I've said it before and I'll say it agin. I like my ford but I hate buying parts for it.
Personaly the only thing Cat has ever done that I'm partial to is heavy equipment. when it comes to building big HP and keeping it together I'll take a Cummins any day.

Probably right. All I know is on the highway here in Australia the CAT C15 and C12 rule the roost. A Series 60 might go 500k miles and need a rebuild but the fleet I work in has only ever had to rebuild one C15 over all the years and that was because it was using a bit of oil. The high time units are well past 750k miles and still going strong.
Cummins and Detroit have their markets but private operators and real truck people go CAT and get the reliability (admittedly at the cost of a bit more fuel and weight).
Going back to F-Series, the more I read about it the more I seem to think the 06 model 6.0PSD is actually a damn good engine that seems to be sorted. With emissions changing it's given the driver to also step up and try to match the hp of duramax.
give it up guys your not going to see it in a super duty. in the 650/750 yes both the small cummins and cats are options over the std 6.0 and thats only because the engine bay is bigger and made for them.
yes i'm one of the guys who would love it maybe a small 3126 size sure won't be in whats left of my life time.

You aussies must have it lucky over there. The cats don't "rule the roost" over here at all. If you can't get a series 60 to go over 750k you are either doing something wrong, or had a catastrophic failure. Most cats run to the 600-650 mark and are usually done. If you need a camshaft(most likely) you can tie up 17-21k for an INFRAME overhaul. Myself, and my family have ran cummins up until the infamous 444, but for modern motors the ISX eats up any c-series cat. Detroits have their place for hired drivers, they do better on fuel and are more idiotproof. I'm glad you have luck with your cats, but as far as saying O/O wich I am run cats, that is bogus BS. You hang around anyone that was around the first ATA B-models, or have had a 20k inframe lately and you will most likely see an ISX under the hood.
Have any of you guys been to the parts desk at Cat? Everything is made of gold with them, that is why many peole use International, Cummins or Detroit.
Cheaper parts, better customer service, and honestly compairable engine reliability.
