Disabling auto dome light

Disabling auto dome light
Is there a way to disable the feature that makes the dome lights come on when the key is turned off? When I have kids sleeping in the back, I dont want them waking when the lights come on.
Lacking a way to disable the auto-light feature, what fuse number controls the dome lights (figuring I can put a switch in line to keep them off)?

What year truck is it? On the '04's the domelight fuse is #35, but that fuse is also half of the instrument cluster. On some model years you could simply turn the little wheel that dims the instrument cluster lights all the way down and that would turn off the domelight so it wouldn't come on at all. Unfortunately that feature is not on my '04.

Thanks, this info has been helpful. On my 2003, fuse #14 is the instrument panel (and dome lights) -- which would be OK to switch off temporarily while we deal with the kids since we are stopped, anyway.
Also of interest is that the auto-on dome lights can be turned off by cycling the instrument dimmer/dome light switch on the dash. The auto-on dome light still comes on when the ignition is turned off, but only as long as it takes to rotate the dimmer to dome-on then off. I haven't explored the delay-relay circuit yet.

My complaint in this area is the dome and outside cargo lights. They come on when you open the door, but won't go off when you shut the door for what seems like a LONG time. I am an ametaur astronomer and when I have to get something out of the truck I am sure not popular with the other observers because the darn lights won't go out. Is there a fix for this?
I guess I could try the fuse thing, but there should be an override someplace.
Thanks
Frank

Here's what I did on my 2002:
Behind the passenger kick panel toward the bottom, you'll find a square 16 pin connector. The wire you're looking for is BK/LB (pin 11).
All I did was cut this wire and run it to a rocker switch inside the glove compartment. The switch sits on the same panel as the glove compartment light switch, so it's within easy reach.
This kills the dome, bed, door and running board lights. The vanity mirrors, glovebox and engine compartment lights still work just fine.
