Disabling the Courtesy Timeout Lights?

I like to do astrophotography, which puts me out in remote areas in the total darkness. The problem I am running into is whenever I open a truck door to get inside to stay warm or retrieve something, the dome lights and parking lights come on. They stay on the whole time the door is open, and for some time afterwards. Surprisingly, even this small amount of light completely ruins night sky exposures, and if I am with a group I get all kinds of choice words directed my way if I open a door. Is there a way to disable this feature when needed, and turn it back on for everyday use?

Yes, you should be able to get your dealer to program it

I was thinking about this one.... since I just noticed you said turn it back on for every day use LOL

Far as I know once they enable the dark car feature, that's it unless you get it programmed back to disabled.

Could you not wire a manual switch in parallel with the door switch? Close the switch and then when you open the door the truck does not know its open. Don't see why that would not work as long as you are not locking and un locking with the key fob. Open the switch and it returns to normal operation.

Only thing I don't know is if it would mess with the anti theft system...
I don't think there is a butt sensor on the drivers side?? Only thing I can think of is maybe if you started the vehicle and the truck said hey the door didn't open, maybe that would set it off. IDK

But it would be really simple to try, attached is the info if you want to give it a shot

Thanks
