Question Keyless entry vs. nearby cars running

There have been times when the keyless entry on the '01 F-150 won't lock or unlock. Almost as if the battery were going dead on the key fob. Happened last night in a parking lot, where I pulled in next to an idling car where someone was sitting. Does a nearby running engine cause interference that might block the door lock radio signal?? Most of the time the keyless stuff works fine.

I guess it could be possible if it were an older car maybe.

Have you tried another remote or a new battery?

Kinda off the subject :

A while back I was headed to my truck and hit the disarm button on my alarm (not factory) and I heard a click from the car a few cars down from my truck. My remote was opening the doors to this car and nothing was happening to the alarm on my truck? What are the chances of that, with the millions (or whatever) possible codes the alarms are supposed to have?! Anyway, just as I was getting these bad ideas about the unlocked car, it stopped working and my truck alarm worked again.

As I recall, it was an early '90's Jeep Cherokee idling nearby. The same key works fine 99% of the time. I think there is definitely a connection - will try with some of my own rigs idling nearby.

My remote does not work properly when my own engine is running. It will work eventually, but you have to try it several times. Once the engine has been shut off the remote works every time.

For triton_2002, here at work, when my friend tries to lock his doors using his remote for his 02 Chevy, it will activate the remote starter and start the engine on another guy's older Blazer accross the parking lot! It's the funniest thing !

They are not designed to work when the engine is running in your own truck.

the remote on my wife's car never works when i park in front of my daughter's dorm building. since she goes to school 100 miles away from home, i thought i was going to be stranded at 9pm on a sunday night. finally, i decided to at least get in the car. i used the key & set off the alarm, which auto shuts off in 30 seconds. couldn't start the car because the alarm cuts out the ignithion. i remembered there was an override switch under the dash. you put the key in, turn the ignition, then hit the switch. started right up. stopped for gas a couple blocks away, remote worked fine. went back to the installer, he said that radio frequencies in the area can cause problems. gone back to the school 4 times, had the same problem every time. if i keep trying, moving the remote around the front of the car, eventually it works. they do have a tv station transmitting their signal 2 blocks away.

One time I got the bright idea to start the truck up in the morning, lock the doors, and take the transmitter with me back into the house. I used the electric door lock on the inside of the door to lock it up, so as not to leave the truck running unlocked and unattended. BIG MISTAKE! I came back 5 minutes later to go to work, and the keyless didn't work at all. Luckily I was home, and got my second key. If I had tried this away from home (like at a motel) I would've been SOL!

The stock remote on my 1995 F-150, would mess with a train switching section, when I locked/unlocked my truck.

QUOTE]They are not designed to work when the engine is running in your own truck.[/QUOTE]

I guess you are right, but it does work on my truck after four or five tries. There was a thread on this a while back on this and some people have this problem while others don't. If it is actually designed to not work when the engine is running, what is the reason?[
