Wink 65 extra cab?!?

O.K. guys, heres a fun one for you to ponder. Currently I have two 65' F-350's. Ones only good for parts, and not many at that. I've come to the conclusion that no one has created a extra cab from a 61-66 vintage truck. Many club cabs were created, but the extra cab didn't show up until the 70's.
Now, here's the fun part, section a cab at the back of the door, and using door, floor, and roof section from the junk cab, add about 12" to the back of my cab. That will allow me to use a standard 8' bed "with some modifications to fit a F-350 frame"
Not to mention the look on peoples faces when they try to figure it out. The trick is going to be the rear quarter window, which I think I'll try to salvage from a later series truck.
Ideas and suggestions? "ASIDE FROM I'M NUTS"

Since there is no flat area behind the door, you will have to add the 12'' you want. The 1/4 windows can be cut from flat glass and a sectioned rear seal can be used to keep it period correct. I would suggest moving the rear cab mounts back and adding a floor brace beneath your floor seam.

I was going to push my cab mounts back as they are allready in the rear of the cab. Yes it's going to get interesting around the door. But it seems like if I go right from the door seam I should be able to pull it off and make it look factory. X-tra bracing in the floor AND the roof will be a must. Thanks for the gasket tip, I'll have to run with that one. Will welcome any other ideas guys.

Thumbs up AhYup! This is my kinda "Project". . . .

1Ton,

I am all for it! If I understand you right, you're talking about what FoMoCo calls a "Super Cab" model, right?

Just so happens I have a 77 F250 Short Bed Super Cab Trailer Special (a 1 ton F250, actually an F350 single wheel) that I been picking apart. It has serious roof edge & cab corner Issues. Also my state of Domicile wants $175/ yr for "tags". That's a Bit Much since my 66 is $24/ year. It's got power train along w/ some of the suspension out of 77 F250. I still have body & chassis to it. I need to do something with it though, it takes up too much room!

Somewhere in the back of my cluttered head I have a vision of using F250's chassis+standard cab+SWB E150 Club Chateau Van,
some creative engineering, MIG welding & ingenuity, creating my very own Phantom FoMoCo Suburban ( MAN! I hate using that GM Name "suburban", but). . . . GM is the target of my folly!

Anyhow, F250 S/C has Tip Out (vent style) 1/4 windows w/ OEM (carlite) tinted glass & latches securing them. They've got Fords own "Super Cab" script etched ( I think) in glass. I've got rear most, frame, outriggers, floor & body supports & mounts. I think rear floor pan, which formas a "platform" is still good too.

Also have really neat, "drop style" rear Bench seat, rather than 2 "taxi style" jump seats many super Cabs came with. These drop type seats drop & fold down, with a "leg" or stand, then flipped seats, [have hard backs] become like a sta wag luggage area! I also have a clean rear cab trim panel & some interior trim you could adapt, perhaps. I am sorry but I do not have the split back front seat, well. . . . .I do have it, but it's the seat in my 66 now. I did keep Super Cab seat tracks though.

Anyway, if you want, I can eMail you Photos & Info if you'd like. Just contact me via my FTE Profile contact. . . . I'll get back to you, except during Turkey Week.

I'll be out of pocket that whole week. We have Doin's and then Thursday - Sunday = "Turkey Run Rod & Custom Show @ Daytona Inatl Spdway. I have friends & assoc's coming etc. etc.

Anyhow 1Ton, get back to me if you're interested, let's talk....

This past summer, I visited with a gentleman who had just drove up to a swap meet that I was at in a 1 ton, extended cab, 4 wheel drive, dually, deisel powered 66 with a goose neck trailer towing two cars....and it was black! Beautiful work, extremely straight but built on a (ahem) mid 90's Dodge chassis. The inside was a little chopped with the Dodge gauges and all, but what a sweet custom. He had bought it off of Ebay recently and sold his new Dodge to get it.

Howdy,

I have also played around with the idea of using a 60's Econoline van's back end to make an attached sleeper/extended cab. i think this would be the easiest way to "extend" one of the slick's cab. One day i'll find one in a scrap yard and start taking mesurements... then get overly motivated and cut the back half off and drag it home... did anything ever materialize from your toying with the idea?

Thanks

There was a post on here last month about an extended cab 65 or 66 (custom, not factory obviously). I am trying to find it and the ad. I believe it was craigslist or e-bay and the truck was in Florida (I think). Silver truck, looked like they did a good job from pics and worth you seeing for your ideas.
