I'm posting this here instead of the for sale section because it's not quite a for sale post yet.. I'm really just needing advice at the moment.
I have this truck that I bought for parts for the 79 F350 I'm fixing up but wasn't able to use very many parts due to this one being a 4x4 1/2 ton and my other being a 2wd 1 ton, this one has a 351m while my F350 also had one but I swapped in a 460, body panels had just as much bondo as the body panels on the F350, etc. So I was really only able to use little things like a bolt here or there, light bulb socket and things like that.
Money is tight right now and I need to get my F350 going so I'm trying to figure out what this is worth including all the extras I have.
So some info about the truck first. It's a 78 I think, F150 Ranger 4x4 with a 351m and a C6.. I was told the transmission is bad and motor is good but I don't know because I never really tried to get it running. It's missing the drive shaft to the rear wheels, missing the alternator, interior is pretty much non existent.. the dash is in the cab but not mounted, no floor mat, floors rusted out, bed floor rusted out.
The extras I have are another set of heads for a 351m, Hedman headers for 351m/400, a set of mirrors, another C6, a bench seat that came out of my other truck in decent shape, the heavy duty bumper you see in the picture but is not currently on the truck, another steering column (non tilt), some side moldings that were with the truck but not mounted when I got it, and various brackets and pulleys for the 351m I took out of my other truck.
I'd like to be able to sell it all or trade for parts I need or possibly other things I need that are not related to the F350 project.
I'm not going to lie to anybody, it's pretty much a pile of junk but possibly a pile of junk somebody might need and just want to know what it's worth.. the buyer would have to come get it as I have no way to transport it myself at the moment.
If it pretty much a pile of junk like you describe then I think it would not really about what is it worth but how much you are willing to take for it.
I'm open to offers.. I'd actually encourage anyone interested to come look at it in person first. It's a parts truck or could possibly be made into a mud truck, but I wouldn't think it would be good for restoration unless you replaced the cab. Like I said I'm open to cash offers or trade offers. Just looking to turn what I don't need into something I do need.
Man if I was capable of doing a body swap I would be all over this assuming the frame and axles are in good shape. I have a 2wd 73 f100 with the same wheelbase.
A body swap is not real hard. Just bulky and heavy. That could be a weekend project.
Have you ever done one HTurner? hmm, If I consider then then I may wanted to get a 351 crate vs my 302 original plans. I wonder if this will all work with my AOD/4R70W drivetrain plan?
I pulled beds and cab. The cab is the hardest part. 4 people can pickup the bed. The cab can be jacked up and supported and roll the frame out from under it roll the new frame in.
To anyone considering this truck for a body swap, I've sort of got it a little bit started lol. I had started getting the front clip ready to pull off because I thought I was going to use the motor from this truck in my F350, but I ended up with a 460 so I decided to go with that.
I'll have to check it again to be sure, it's been several months ago, but I think the only bolts left in the front clip are the two very front bolts in the header panel/radiator support. If you take the hood off first, the front clip really doesn't weigh much, two people can easily take it off.
