Exclamation Inquiry about an Airbag Deployment

Hello, I recently had my airbags deploy but the truck is still drive able with a new radiator. I had both of my airbags deploy, I would love any insight on what steps I need to get er' back on the road again. Thanks

Welcome to FTE.

Sorry to hear about an airbag popping. Had one go off once, not much fun.

Obviously, you will need airbags and sensors, plus anything else related that is no longer serviceable.

I don't think airbag installation is rocket science. The main difference being the size of the explosion if something goes wrong. I would get a quote from a shop and see what they would expect time wise to do the job.

For example, I was told it's 90 minutes to replace a bag in a Honda under the Takata recall. (I think that was just one bag). No damage or sensors involved there.

Once you head into this, get a shop manual or look for a how-to--look for several how-to videos.

Typically to do the job right, you need the airbags, the clock spring in the steering column, the airbag module (sets a permanent fault code for airbags), the crash sensors, and seat belt pre-tensioners if your truck is equipped.

Thanks

I have heard that taking it to my local Ford dealership garage will be ridiculously expensive. I will attempt to do it myself with another who has more experience. I can't find many tutorials or help guides for an 2000 F-150 Xl, very strange. Appreciated though.

Take it to a shop. Some vehicles (not sure if yours is one of them), once the airbag module has been tripped, it stays tripped, and will deploy new airbags when the battery is reconnected.
