95 7.3 has stalling and bucking usually after you run the truck for 20 miles or so. Suspected o rings because of black fuel filter and a little blue smoke when first started. So I pulled injectors put new rings on and gave it a fresh oil change. The bucking is still there though but not nearly as bad. Any ideas?

Start with a new CPS. Only get one from Ford or IH. Don't get one from a parts store.

10 4. Do you recommend disconnecting the batteries when installing the cps?

Wouldn't hurt. I usually remove both negative cables when I do anything electrical. CPS is a common failure, and a cheap enough test. If it turns out not to be the issue, then you have a spare to keep in the glove box, which is a good idea anyway.

The bucking could indicate a bad IDM

Mine has bucked when the fuel pressure gets low. There is a Schraeder valve on the fuel bowl where you can check it. I think it should be at least 50 psi or so, not sure of the exact number. Probably not likely but doesn't cost anything to check it.
