zf5 transmission interchange 5.8 to 7.5

So I have been doing some searching and haven't been able to find much info. So background of what happened i destroyed my input shaft gear and fourth gear in my truck (95 F350 cab chassis 7.5 zf5 RWD). I opened the tranny and metal shavings everywhere. I'm not afraid to rebuild but the amount of metal shavings is telling me a different transmission might be a better option. So I can't find any 7.5L zf5 at a reasonable price in my area. But I found a decent one a local junk yard that came off of a 1994 5.8L F350 truck. Can the transmissions be a direct swap? If not can I take the front case from mine and place on the junk yard 5.8 transmission? Are the internals the same?

It's not a direct swap. The 351 and 460 take different bellhousings. Since the bellhousing is integral with the case on the ZF transmissions it means the cases aren't interchangeable.

Are the internals? I don't know. Maybe. But it would mean completely disassembling two transmissions in order to reassemble one. I'd guess that's not your best option even if it will work.

I just found that info also there is three versions of the zf small block, big block and diesel. I'm really not worried about switching the Front half of the cases. With the internals being rear mounted my thought is that the front part of the case should be fairly easy to switch. So my question now is are the input splines the same between the 5.8 and 7.5? and are the gear ratios the same in the two?

At least you still have 4th...

You can buy both of those gears separately and fix your trans.

The smf zf is 6-8" longer then the bbf/diesels

Not sure off hand about the input shafts besides wide ratio and close ratios are different.

The problem with that is that there isn't a front part and back part of the case. You're thinking of older style manual transmissions that have removable bellhousings. It's not a fairly easy switch, it's a complete tear-down and rebuild.

so I looked at the replacement parts list and the input shafts are longer like you said ifry the 4.9 and 5.8L are 11 1/2 27T input shafts and the 7.5 is 9 1/2 27T. so the 5.8 wont work for what I want to do

I was trying to save some money as from what I was seeing the two gears were about $140 each and by the time I add seals and bearings syncros i'll be into with about $600 total the used transmission I was looking at was $400.
