Unhappy 2001 E-350 Econoline w rusted frame - scrap it?

Hello,

I bought an E350 Econoline van with an Unicell body and I was planning to convert it into a motorhome.

However, the mechanic just told me that the frame is so rusted that the car is unsafe to drive. He thinks I should cut my loses and not pour any more money into fixing the engine (who also needs work).

I was wondering what are my options. Here's how the thing looks like underneath.

Absolutely, positively unsafe and useless. It's all fun and games til the steering box literally falls off ...

I agree with the others and your mechanic, it's spent.

The rust-through in front of the sway bar bracket is really telling. I'd agree with the mechanic, this isn't a van I would put any money into at all. Sounds like you got a raw deal.

Thanks guys.
Ended by scrapping it. Found out from the locals that the car was parked by the ocean for a long time.
That was a rather expensive lesson.

Feel bad for you man...that's a tough nut to swallow. Good luck finding another one that's hopefully in better condition.
