Truck Updates: (Tires, Tint, Plastidip...)

Hey guys,

Been a while since I had time to post an update on the truck. Just rolled 40k and the factory Goodyear SRA's were getting a little long in the tooth. Picked up a set of Michelin LTX M/S2s after reading many positive review about on road / snow use. Truck rarely sees off-road / mud so that was not a concern. These are a P series tire as I wanted the nice ride and didn't need a LT tire for my usage. They are the factory size 275/65R18. White walls out! Sears was running a deal so I got one of the tires free.

I also decided it was time for some tint. The STX I purchased had no factory privacy tint. Went with 20% all around (sans front windshield or AS-1 line). It looks really dark in some pics and light in others. Really depends on angle of the sun, cloud cover, etc... It works fine for me as past trucks have had 5% on rear glass and 15% on sides.

Lastly, I finally got around to plastidipping the chrome running boards. As some of you may know, I am not a big chrome guy (to each their own however!). Only took a couple of hours as I pulled off the step plastic and cleaned underneath before spraying. There are a couple of places that need some touch-up but otherwise I'm happy.

Pics below, let me know your thoughts!

Hell I think you did a great job!
I'm a huge Michelin fan, recently put a set on my wife's 08 Escape, had a set on my 2001 F150, it's a good all around tire that wears fantastic, good traction etc. And the (P) Passenger weight range is plenty unless you often, load the truck heavier.
I'm wanting to get some tint on my 2013, it only has the privacy tint on the back two doors, and back cab glass.
And I'm a chrome fan, but with the color of you truck, grill, and bumpers, I like the black you have on the step bars.
And that, looks like a great camping spot! We have a camping coming up in three weekends for our North Carolina FTE members. Last one in April, and we had a blast.

Unk Bob

The truck looks great. I've had several sets of those tires in the past and they served me well. My truck comes from the factory with 20% on the rear windows. I added 35% to the fronts & 70% to the entire windshield. I wanted 3M crystalline all around but we didn't think that product would match the factory tint so I only did crystalline on the windshield.

The truck is looking great! I have a soft spot for the STX as it's just a very good looking truck right out of the box. You've really kept it up well, black is a hard one to keep looking good.

Looking good. I'd do the black paint in the tail lights mod to get rid of the chrome there.

Thanks everyone I am happy with how it has turned out so far. The black is a PITA to keep clean... especially in the winter. I get out there and wash the salt off as much as possible (and try to avoid turning my driveway into a skating rink...)

Is this the mod that involves putting them in the oven and breaking opening the housings to paint? Saw that a while back, was a bit hesitant to open up the housings and re-seal for fear of moisture getting trapped. I've been watching the raptor forums to see if some take-offs come up for sale.

The black tails came on many trucks, FX4, 2011 Limited, Harley, Raptor. I'm sure you can find a set and it would really make the rear look nice

Robb that truck has come a long way. Very nice subtle classy updates sir!

I too agree that the FX tails would do your truck well. There was a set for sale not long ago on the other forum for around $100.

I have the same problem with my driveway. In the summer it gets all the sun & in the winter it gets all the shade. Just the opposite of what would be nice. I hate salting my driveway.

Looking good Robb. I too vote for the FX taillights. And while you're at it, swap the headlights too with the FX trucks headlights. They have a black back ground as well.

Rob,

Shes looking good brotha. I am not a chrome guy either (to each their own) & you did a great job on the step's. I was going to suggest u get a set of black headlights/taillights like my FX2 has, but I see everyone else had already...lol

I am scouring Craigslist & eBay for a set of black projector style headlights for mine, at a reasonable cost.
If I find some I'll hit u up, if you'd be interested in my black headlights?
