2012 XLT Getting new tires next week at Sears and they are trying to sell me new tire pressure sensors, saying that over time they can become inoperative due to moisture getting in the valve stem. I thought they were just stuck to the inside of the rim. They said $40, I didn't ask if that was a set or for 1. Just told them I would think about it. 136,000 do you think I need them when I have no light on now?
Discount Tire will "rebuild" the TPMS sensors whenever they install new tires. I think the rebuild is essentially a new seal and valve core. The electronics should be fine unless the casing is cracked and moisture is getting to the circuit board.
Design service life is 10 years. So give or take, 30% will fail earlier and 70% will last 10 years or longer. In the end, if the tire will be o the truck past the 10 year mark, get well reviewed amazon replacements. Otherwise, roll with it.
