1993 Ford F-150 shifter will not engage
My 93 F-150 was having problems going into park to start but would start in neutral . So I searched forums and found this diagram to a related problem. So I tightened bolts and started right away. Then took for a test drive as I'm backing out of driveway I heard shifter snap something sounded like a spring. Now shifter is stuck in neutral and won't go into park or any gears and shifter is extremely loose . Can anyone point me in right direction to what it might me everything looks normal under dash .
Thanks Gladiator81

Can you get your head under the dash and see the linkage where the cable connects? Does it move when you try to move the shift lever?
If it were my truck I'd just pull the column out and throw it up on my workbench. That way the entire shift mechanism is right there in front of you and you can repair or replace whatever you need to. Take off the cluster trim, lower trim panel under that, disconnect electrical connections, remove one bolt from the steering shaft and four bolts that hold the column in. Only takes a few minutes after you've done it a time or two.

gladiadiator81, I asked a similar question about mine getting harder to pull out of Park and was kindly guided here.
Have a look at this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ot-engage.html
In that same discussion it was said:
gladiator81, what do you determine to be your problem?
My bolts are not loose but there is a lot of wasted movement between the shaft the two bolts with the split arrow arrows pointing to and the cable connection near the words "1995 PSD". The gear selector being moved at the OD button end causes a lot of twisting in the "Bottom end of shift rod" piece and the "Shift bracket" piece with near zero movement of the cable end.
I did not try this yet with the ignition turned and the brake pushed so that it would actually disengage from Park.
