Steering Gear Adjustment Mistake

So as I was getting the Sherpa ready for our churches youth leader to take tomorrow for a week at an event with a bunch of kids I wanted to adjust my steering gear...just to make it perfect. Well I jumped in and didn't mark my starting point and now the steering feels too tight no matter what I do. Any suggestions on how to get it back or did I just screw the pooch as they say? I only seem to have 1 full rotation of the adjustment screw from resistance to resistance and I have it about in the middle. Everything I read implies there should be much more turning available.

Sorry if a dumb question, but you loosened the lock nut right? That screw and locknut should be able to return to your starting point with no issue. From there go in 1/4 turns increments and test drive until the steering feels improved. Mine went 1.5 turns before giving a much tighter feel to the steering.

I'm in Ventura Co in case we can meet up.

Yes I loosened the lock nut. I just drove home (about 40 miles) and the steering effort when straight is much stiffer and I now have wander that I didn't have before. I almost couldn't keep it straight on smooth roads.

I only seem to have about 1 full turn total. I got carried away and tightened until I felt resistance and then backed it out about 1/4 turn. Steering effort was increased when driving straight so I backed it out a bit more and noticed I hit resistance again.

I did the same thing.....I think what I ended up doing was having to loosen the Allen head screw and hold it still while tightening the larger nut, effectively loosening the Allen screw.

Thanks but that is how I was doing it.

With the wandering I have now it seems like it is too loose but the steering effort is higher so I am hesitant to tighten it any more.
