Little clips or tabs on Monkey face windshield frame?

Those two little clips or tabs or whatever. What were they originally for besides making a hump in your windsheild rubber seal? Not really important, just bugging me right now.

I grind them off, especially after breaking a perfect stock windshield while taking it out and forgot to bend them down. I think they were there to help hold your windshield in but when you read the shop manual instructions for installing the stainless windshield trim it says they are not needed. The stainless trim does nothing to hold the windshield in. The tabs are also a good place for rust to start.

thanks for the info Bob. I agree, they serve no logical purpose. Just wasn't sure what the original intent was.

If you can get a new windshield in with the tabs in place, you're better than Ray and me. Even after grinding as much as we could it took some mighty persuasion to get his new windshield into his F-4.
