Help! My hood won't shut all the way.

Ok so this latch thing won't go back up(it's in front of the hood release latch), and it's giving me a heck of a time, and my hood won't shut all the way. I sprayed it with WD40, and tried pulling it up with pliers and a hammer. What can I do here? Is there a trick to this? I have a picture of it, but I forgot how to add it.

I had this problem with my 93. The latch was stuck in the closed position. I kept spraying PB inside the cable that goes from the latch to the hood latch under the dash, it eventually worked its way down. Then I kept pulling the hood latch under the dash to work the oil in. After a few tries it worked and haven't had a problem in a year of owning it. Try it..

And I think that is the key. Using something like PB Blaster, or Aerokroil, will be a lot more effective than WD40 if the issue is a stuck/corroded cable or assembly. WD40 is virtually useless for that application. WD40, where WD stands for Water Displacement, is not a lubricant or a penetration oil.

I wouldn't close the hood anymore til you get that latch moving freely. I had the same problem on mine and was trying to work some lube into it when it decided to get stuck. Couldn't release it but it also wouldn't close all the way either. Well long story short after several beers and trying to get my hands up in there with every kind of tool I had to try and unbolt the hood latch, I decided to just SMASH the grill out. I was trying to be careful to only bust out the grill but ended up also shattering that plastic header panel that the headlights bolt to and smashing my transmission cooler as well. Oh well... I got the stupid hood latch unbolted and freed up. New parts from the junkyard and all was well again.

That sucks. Now I don't feel as bad for breaking stuff when I'm trying to fix stuff, though.....
