On my 95 F150 XLT, my hood is stuck closed tight, but not all the way. there about a 1.5" gap between bottom of hood and top of grill. The cable is good. The safety latch won't budge. Help.
My '89 does that every now and again. Did you try pushing down on the hood (like you're closing it), then try to open the safety catch? I've even had a couple times on other vehicles where I'd have to force the hood back closed again, then re-pop it.

Exactly.
The same method has been used since 1968 on Ford trucks. The latch becomes loose, so pull the cable, push down on the hood with your one hand, while pulling the safety catch with your other hand..CLICK Voila! It will open.
Find the "spring" that pops the hood when the cable is pulled. On some trucks it's a steel C shaped device that bolts to the latch support, or in the general area. Bend it up a bit, that should solve the problem.

I got it open. Tried previous suggestions but ended up taking a 10mm wrench and reaching through grill and taking out 2 screws and removing latch. I found that somehow the hood came down and jambed the latch.
