hood stuck shut!

My transmission was doing some hard shifting so I thought I would check out the fluid levels. no dice. When I pull on the hood release it does not pop the hood.
I searched on some other threads and it appears I may need to unbolt the latch through the grill using a 10mm.

Is this a common problem? I am guessing I should grease the latch mechanism up when I do get it open.

try pushing down on the hood and have someone pull the hood release.

Also try reaching through the grill up to the right side of the latch, find the cable for the hood release push the end thats attched to the bracket strait back and the cable should come off. then just give a good yank on it and it might unlatch.

On mine, I've been able to reach back behind the latch on the right side where the cable connects and pop it there. The cable loops over a hooked piece inside the latch. If you can find that piece, you just have to push it up to release the hood. Have to push it pretty hard, but it does work.
