E4OD trans problem

I have a 1996 f250 7.3L 4x4. I pulled the trans last week to replace the front seal. Put it all back together no problem. Changed trans oil and put a new pan gasket in it. Go to drive it last night and it won't move all the time in an gear. When it does move it doesn't take off until about 1500 rpm. Pan had some metal shavings in it. And the oil looked real nasty. Does anyone know what might be the problem. I want to make sure my trans isn't bad before I pull it again and get it rebuilt

I've never done it before. Is there a special tool I need or is it one of those plugs I shove a paperclip in and the amount of flashes make up the code

You'll need a scan tool. The cheap/free ones at auto zone don't work.

Do you have a way to get it to a shop ?
