Windshield Glass Polishing

Has anyone have any experience using a glass polishing kit? Have some wiper marks to remove rather than replacing the glass. Thanks!

I have some scratches on my windshield. I have not seen a glass polishing kit, but years ago I read about using toothpaste to clean up scratches. Haven't tried it yet though.

Eastwood and others sell the kits. Not sure about the abrasive properties of today's tooth pastes.

I've heard the kits will remove "scuffs", but not scratches.

Yeah, the old Pepsodent was pretty abrasive, but not so much anymore.

Would a minty fresh windshield attract more bugs?

#0000 steel wool will clean up anything that can be removed successfully. If you can feel a scratch with your fingernail, polishing won't bring it out.

Be careful if you try to use a buffing wheel. The heat can separate the laminate or crack the glass. Not too bad on a flat windshield but if you have curved gla$$

I've successfully knocked wiper "haze" off a windshield with a polish kit. If the windshield is not scratched, it should come out looking very good.

The steel wool didn't do much nor did polishing compound. Had limited success with mild acid and 1000 grit sand paper. Will need to consider a kit versus replacement glass.

I don't know how much the kit is or how effective it might be on your truck's scratches but new glass is just over $100 and you can get the tinted version for the same price.

Thanks guys. The windshield is on a 1970 Ranger High Boy I'm working on with my brother. This thing has been cursed from jump - just trying to move it along so we can get to a 36 Ford pickup.

But I do have a new windshield seal I've been meaning to install on the 49. Hmmm...
